Coaching

I am confused with all the different types of coaches out there – can you help?

I will tackle this question in two parts

1) what is coaching? and
2) how will it actually help me?

1) All coaches operate somewhere between the two ends of the spectrum of life coaching and a business coaching/mentoring/advising. A life coach is concerned mainly with working with your personal goals (touching on business issues when appropriate) and business coaches/mentors/advisors focuses on getting business results rather than personal results. Life coaches works with your agenda whereas business coaches may not. To be credible, most business coaches will have "been there", "done that". The coachee is therefore usually looking to us their expertise to solve their current problems. It is different in life coaching. The coach may even see it as a strength not to have "been there" so that they do not bring their own limited views into the session. The middle ground can be thought of as occupied by the executive coaches. The main focus for executive coaches is personal, but in the business context. The executive coach works on improving performance and fine tuning leadership skills - the agenda can vary between business and personal issues.

2) I don't think I've ever heard anyone who has been coached professionally say that coaching wasn't a groundbreaking experience for them. The two problems that most people face are lack of clear direction and a lack of faith in themselves. This is what exceptional leaders work to eliminate from their lives. For me, this is where coaching adds the most value. If one of these issues is holding you back then I suggest you get a coach.

What are the benefits of coaching?

My job is to help my clients to identify and eliminate fear, uncertainty and doubt in their personal and professional lives.

People are the most valuable resource in many businesses and the vast majority of people just don’t reach their full potential. Coaching supports individuals through periods of uncertainty and empowers them to take steps outside the “comfort zone”

Benefits include

  • Increased self-awareness
  • Better goal setting
  • Lower stress levels
  • Increased confidence
  • Enhanced communication skills
  • More empowered workforce

How does coaching work?

Coaching can be face to face or over the telephone. It can be beneficial to meet face to face at least once at the outset of the coaching relationship.

Coaching focuses on getting long lasting results. Depending upon the issues covered, this may take a period of months or more. You should discuss your expectations for the length of the relationship with your coach before you begin the coaching.

What level of investment is required?

JB Executive Coaching rates range from £80 to £140 per session depending upon the frequency and length of sessions together with whether the coaching takes place face to face or over the telephone. Higher rates apply for corporate executive and business coaching.

The JB Executive Coaching Model

The model can be seen pictorially below. Phase 1 of the model involves clarifying the current situation and environment. This includes a reality check of facts against perception and an exploration of your motivational strategies. Phase 2 means defining your goals. It is crucial that goals are aligned with your personal or business values and the consequences of working towards these are fully explored. A clear understanding is required of what success would look like and your beliefs. Phase 3 is formulating an action plan and the most important part of the success cycle – taking action.

Once the chosen action plan has been executed it is time to reflect – returning to Phase 1. JB Executive Coaching uses this unique success model as an integral part of the coaching process.
